Earth Wind and Fire March for Brass Band:
1. Fantasy, 2. Got to get You into My Life, 3. September
This high-energy concert march is built on the unmistakable sound world of Earth, Wind & Fire, the legendary funk and soul group founded by Maurice White. Renowned for their powerful horn writing, tight rhythmic grooves and uplifting style, their music translates naturally into the brass band idiom.
The arrangement brings together three of their most celebrated songs: Fantasy from the album All ’n All, alongside Got to Get You into My Life and September, both popularised by the band on The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vol. 1 (the former originally written by The Beatles). Each provides distinctive thematic material, from the soaring lyricism of Fantasy to the instantly recognisable rhythmic drive of September.
Cast in traditional march form, the piece cleverly adapts these funk-driven originals to suit brass band performance. Crisp articulation in the cornets and trombones mirrors the precision of a commercial horn section, while basses and percussion underpin the music with a strong, groove-based pulse. The inner band is given plenty of interest through syncopated accompaniments and harmonic colour, demanding tight ensemble and rhythmic accuracy throughout.
Balancing the discipline of a march with the expressive flexibility of funk and soul, this arrangement makes an ideal concert opener—bright, engaging, and full of character—offering every section of the band a chance to shine while immediately connecting with audiences through its familiar and infectious material.
